Swim Lessons

Safari Island members receive first priority for swim lesson registration, as well as a discount. Registration will open to non-members beginning on the non-member registration date(s). Sign up as soon as possible as space is limited!

Swim Lesson Level Descriptions

Registration deadline for swim lessons is one week prior to the class start date. Registrations are NOT processed until payment is received.

Lifeguard Classes

This course trains participants in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid.

PLEASE NOTE: Participants who do not pass pre-requisites will be not be provided with a refund.

Course Pre-Requisites:
• Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. 100 Yards must be Front Crawl, 100 yards must be breaststroke and 100 yards of either Front Crawl or Breaststroke
• Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breast stroke, or a combination of both but swimming on back or side is not allowed.
• Skill combination of swimming 20 yards with head above water, surface dive to a depth of 7 feet to retrieve a diving brick,swim back 20 yards carrying the brick with both hands in one minute 40 seconds.
• Participants must attend all days and times.
• Tread water for two minutes using only legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.

Water Safety Instructor Blended Learning (WSI)

Description: Become certified to teach the American Red Cross Swim Lessons.

Age Prerequisites: Must be at least 16 years of age before the final scheduled session (proof required).

Skill Prerequisites: Must demonstrate the following skills according to the Stroke Performance Charts. Level 4: 25 yards front crawl, 25 yards back crawl, 25 yards breaststroke, 25 yards elementary backstroke, 25 yards side stroke, 15 yards butterfly, tread water for 1 minute, maintain position on back 1 minute in deep water.

Students must complete the online portion of the course as well as participating in the Classroom, Water Skills Sessions. Once registered, information for accessing the online course will be emailed to the student.  

There is an additional fee of $35 paid directly to the Red Cross for the online training.
