RE-OPENING STATEMENT

Update: July 24, 2020
 

As of July 25, 2020, per the Governor's Executive Order 20-81, people in Minnesota are required to wear a face covering in all public indoor spaces and businesses.

 

When face covering is REQUIRED to be worn:

  • Entering/Exiting Safari Island

  • Transitioning throughout Safari Island

  • Safari Island will not provide masks
     

When a face covering can be temporarily removed:

  • When participating in indoor physical exercise where the level of exertion makes wearing a face covering difficult, as long as social distancing can be maintained at all times.

  • When participating in an activity in which the face covering will get wet. (swimming)

Update: June 9, 2020

Dear Valued Members and Guests,

We are excited to announce that Safari Island will open on Wednesday, June 10th, at 5:30am! We hope that you and your families are staying healthy and safe during this unexpected time of COVID-19.  During the time that our facility has been closed, based on the Minnesota Stay-At-Home and Stay-Safe orders, we have been busy planning for your safe return to Safari Island Community Center. Active and healthy lifestyles are more important now than ever and we are eager to assist you as we welcome you back!

 

As you can imagine, there will be notable changes and adjustments when we open. We appreciate your understanding with these modifications to help keep our guests, members, and employees safe.  Most important, we will be operating at 25% capacity.

 

Starting Wednesday, June 10th, we will be open normal summer hours:

Monday 5:30am-9pm
Tuesday 5:30am-9pm
Wednesday 5:30am-9pm
Thursday 5:30am-9pm
Friday 5:30am-7pm
Saturday 5:30am-7pm
Sunday 8am-7pm

As we prepare, there are new procedures and expectations – this is a joint effort in creating a welcoming and safe environment.  Here is what is most essential to expect from each other:

OUR ROLE

  • Follow recommendations from the Minnesota Department of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Governor Walz’s Orders.

  • Regularly and consistently clean touch points throughout the facility.

  • Provide signage to encourage social distancing throughout the facility.

  • Monitor 25% capacity throughout the facility.

 

YOUR ROLE

  • To serve as many people as possible, please be cognizant of the amount of time you are using the facility. We ask you to be intentional while working out and promptly exit the facility when your workout is complete so others may enter.

  • Remain socially distant from others and respond positively to expectations communicated from employees.

  • All members MUST BRING their membership card to scan into the facility.If you do not have a membership card, please call 952-442-0695.

  • Bring a full water bottle – drinking fountains will not be available.

  • Masks are required.

  • Know your workout, plan ahead of time and be flexible if 25% capacity is already reached in certain areas of the building. Upon entry to the facility, you will be required to notify the front desk regarding where you plan to be in the building.

 

Below is a breakdown of changes in each department to anticipate when you return.

 

Monthly Memberships: Membership will be active starting Wednesday, June 10th, automatic withdrawals will begin again on July 1, 2020.

 

Annual Memberships: Membership will be active starting Wednesday, June 10th.  Membership renewal dates (when your annual membership was set to expire) will be extended 3 months to account for the number of days the facility was closed.

Group Exercise Classes: Group exercise and specialty classes will all be offered outside. 

Personal Training: Please contact Matt Jessessky at mjessessky@waconia.org to set up a personal training session.

Aquatics: Open swim and lap swim will have limited hours/availability, see the schedule at https://www.safariislandcommunitycenter.com/hours-schedules.  Programming, including swim lessons, will be implemented at a later date.

 

Weight Room: Machines are organized to keep socially distant.  Every individual is required to clean every piece of equipment that they use. Please limit your workout to 90 minutes to allow for others to use the room.

Track: The middle lane is blocked off; walkers must stay in the inside lane and runners must stay in the outside lane.

Gym/Courts: Please use social distancing protocols when in the courts.

Pickleball: Pickleball will continue to be offered on Wednesday evening and Saturday mornings. See the schedule at https://www.safariislandcommunitycenter.com/hours-schedules.

Men’s and Women’s Locker Rooms: Temporarily closed until further notice.

Childcare: Temporarily closed until further notice.

Lion’s Den: Temporarily closed until further notice.

Coffee Club: We will no longer offer Coffee Club at Safari Island.
