What You Need to Know Before Attending Swim Lessons

Our mission is to provide a safe, high quality, fun learning experience for all participants of our swimming lessons programs. Listed below are a few reminders regarding group swimming lessons programming:

  • Participants may be allowed to use the slide, diving board, lifejackets, and other equipment under close supervision by trained staff. Please note that while these activities may not be in accordance with Safari Island open swim rules, they are used to foster a safe learning experience.

  • While we do our best to provide consistent staffing for each session, we cannot guarantee that participants will have the same instructor for each lesson. We will continue to do our best to provide the highest level of continuity possible to ensure all participants have a favorable learning experience.

  • If an instructor determines that a participant may not be in the appropriate level, the instructor will make a recommendation to the Aquatics Director. The Aquatics Director will then work with the participant to take appropriate action to ensure they are in the correct level based on their skill level. An alternate learning plan may also be established.

  • We will begin each day of lessons with a safety lesson where swimmers will focus solely on learning and practicing various safety topics.

  • Out of respect for our Safari Island members and paying guests, any non-member swim lesson participants must pay daily admission at the front desk if using the pools prior to or after their scheduled swimming lesson. (Waconia youth residents $7, non-resident youth $8)

Please review our current programming policies:

ATTENDANCE & CANCELLATION POLICY

  • Safari Island reserves the right to cancel any class session or lesson. Full refunds will be given to participants registered for a full eight-week session that is cancelled and to those who withdraw from a class eight or more days before the scheduled start date. Vouchers redeemed in the initial registration will be credited in the form of Sand Dollars to be used for a future session of swimming lessons.

  • Participants who withdraw 4 to 7 days before the scheduled start date will be eligible for a 50 percent refund. No refund will be given to persons who withdraw from courses within 3 days of a course starting or after the scheduled start date. Vouchers redeemed in the initial registration will be credited in the form of Sand Dollars to be used for a future session of swimming lessons.

  • If Safari Island cancels two or more lessons in an eight-week session, a credit will be issued in the form of Sand Dollars to be used for a future session of swimming lessons.

  • Missed classes cannot be made up. We cannot credit or prorate missed classes.

BEHAVIOR POLICY

  • Safari Island staff reserve the right to take disciplinary action with any swimmers who are causing disruptions in the class. This may include the following: verbal warning, 5-minute removal from the water, dismissal from the remainder of that day’s lesson, intervention conversation between the instructor, parent, and Aquatics Director, and/or expulsion from class (non-refundable).

SOCIAL DISTANCING POLICY

  • A parent will be required to be in the water in appropriate swimwear to provide hands-on support and assistance for their child for all classes through Level 3. Parents are not required to be in the water for Levels 4-6. Our instructors will model skills in the water and will instruct from the deck to allow for appropriate social distancing.

  • If a parent is unprepared to be in the water, the lesson will not occur and there will be no makeup or refund for that lesson.

Please feel free to address any further questions or concerns to the Aquatics Director at any time.
